Back At It

Hey all!  Happy Monday.  This is going to be a great week.

I have one of my besties and her fiance coming to visit this week, and I can't wait!  They're going to sleep in our newly furnished (kind of) guest room.  I'll be posting pictures of what I've done so far in the next few days.

So, yesterday, I signed up for the Peoria Race for the Cure.  (Anyone else doing this?)  George is doing it, so I figured, "why not?"  It's for a good cause, and George deals with breast cancer patients on an almost daily basis.  If I totally bomb it, at least I donated some money towards breast cancer research, right?

I'm DEFINITELY not expecting a PR.  I've actually only run less than 15 times since my marathon, and let me tell you... if you don't use it, you LOSE it.  I kind of feel like I'm starting back at square one.  Really, I'm having a rough time of it.  The only thing that is helpful for me is to look back at where I was at this time last year.

I've done a few track workouts with George, and I really despise them.  For me, speed work kind of takes the fun out of running.  Not only am I huffing and puffing, I'm running in a circle and getting lapped by my husband.

*Bragging: He runs 400's in 70 seconds with jogging laps in between, no stopping. #beastmode

Just looking at this makes me bored
Again, I know that I'm definitely not going to PR for this 5k, but it might help me get back into the swing of things and get me fired up to keep on running.  I'm still trying to figure out if I have a goal time in mind or not.  Maybe I do....and maybe I'm too nervous to share it..... haha

Also, I just wanted to give a shout out to all of my new readers and followers out there.  I wrote this post a while ago explaining what this blog is all about. Mostly a little bit about our new house, running, bargain shopping, and recipes that are nearly impossible to F up.

I do a linkup every month called "Favorite Things."  I'm a wannabe Oprah, and I enjoy sharing some awesome products that I've discovered or have been using often.  Check out my Favorite Things tab up top for more info.

The next linkup will be on THURSDAY, MAY 1st.  All the cool kids are doing it.  You know you want to.  Don't worry, I'll be reminding you again.

That's all for now.  I'm off to figure out how to run 3.1 miles without losing my lunch...

  1. Your track run is still pretty awesome with 9 minute mile pace for not having run much. You'll do great!

  2. Good luck with the race. Like you said even if you don't hit your PR at least you know you did it for a good cause!

  3. I depise track workouts, too! Speedwork is a must, so I just run with my brother instead, ha!

Also, your 5k time is faster than mine, so no worry! I can't break 28-29 min...any tips?

I'm one of those runners who get faster the longer they run, so maybe that is why?

  4. youre so right about if you dont use it you lose it I was running 3.5 miles non stop now I can barely go 6 minutes without having to walk it out. I should have never taken a 'break'

  5. Good luck girl! Have fun with it and try not worrying about time. I hate track workouts as well but am trying to force myself to like them. It's not working well so far ;)

  6. I try to stay far away from the track. The only kind of speed work I do is fartleks and hills... I am sure you have read it but "they say" hills are speed training in disguise. You got this!! I can't wait to read your recap :)

  7. Runs like Komen around here are flat out too crowded to even try and truly run them. It is the one run that I typically will walk with my mom and make it about the cause rather than my ego. haha.

I can't say I'd hate track workouts, I run on the treadmill most days....so the boredom is about the same, but outside I'd have to learn to tolerate the heat and humidity. hmmm...can't decide which is worse!
