I'm an Ipsy Believer

Hey all!  Happy Monday.  This past weekend, I ran the Iron Horse Half Marathon.  That shiz was ROUGH, but I made it.  Verrry hilly and added about 7 minutes on to my Fort4Fitness time.  I'm totally ok with this because I told myself this was a training run.  Anyways, I will do a race recap once I get my race pictures of me huffing and puffing skipping up those hills.

For now, I'm going to talk about Ipsy.  It's AWESOME.  I'm a former Birchbox subscriber, and I really wasn't happy with them.  I got way too many eye creams and teas that I really didn't care for.  Maybe one piece was something I actually liked.

I subscribed to Ipsy for $110 for 12 months maybe 5 months ago?  There is a long waiting list, so you will not immediately start receiving your boxes.  You complete an online profile with your style description, hair and skin color and type, and what beauty "issues" you have.  Each month's goodies come in a little zipper cosmetic bag with a different pattern each month.

Here is what I received this month.

One: Big Sexy Hair Blow Dry Gel

1.7 oz travel size.  Sold at Beauty Brands for $4.98.  I'm super excited to try this stuff, and I'm always on the lookout for high end products in a travel size.

Two: Zoya Nail Polish in Giovanna

0.5 oz full size.  Sold for $8.  This isn't a color that I would typically choose.  I'm more into the gel polishes, but I have a feeling I know a friend or two who would like this.

Three: Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly

2 ml travel size.  Full size (4.45 ml) sold for $19.  I've heard that this lipgloss is a cult favorite, so I can't wait to try it.  It has a little bit of a tingle, so it makes lips appear fuller.

Four: LA Fresh Oil Free Face Cleansing Wipes

10 wipe travel size.  Full size (30 wipes) sold for $10.  I'm super lazy about washing my face before I go to bed, so I mostly use wipes.  I'm all about finding good wipes with lots of moisture to get every last smudge off.

Five: Be Delectable: Coconut and Cream Hand Cream

2 oz travel size.  Full size (4 oz) sold for $10.  This stuff smells heavenly!  My hands get so nasty and dry in the winter, especially if I'm working a lot.  This is a smaller sized tube that will fit perfectly in my scrub pocket.

Do you get Ipsy or Birchbox? Do you like it?

  1. I don't get either as I hate to think about throwing something out I don't use but the items above are things I would use, minus the polish though I could give that away! I need to rethink signing up!

  2. So funny... I just got on the waiting list for Birchbox... may need to re-think and try Ipsy. These look like things I would like!

  3. I've been wanting to try one of those! I've been hearing that Ipsy is doing much better than Birchbox!

  4. Congrats on your half marathon. Ipsy is on my Christmas list.

FYI - giveaway at my blog!

  5. I subscribed to Birchbox for about 4 months before I realized that it wasn't worth the $10 a month! I haven't heard of Ipsy! Looks like you got some good stuff!

  6. Glad to hear Ipsy is a good one! I always felt like Birchbox was such a waste because half the stuff you get you won't ever use!

  7. I've heard bad things about Birchbox lately. I'm going to look into Ipsy! Looks like you got some great new products!

  8. I've never heard of either of these, but I love the idea of getting surprises each month!

  9. Been following ipsy since its inception nearly 2 years ago. Pardon my candor, but BirchBox is shit. Pathetic one-time samples and "lifestyle" products that are a single teabag. Most ipsy boxes are worth $40-$50 and I am always thrilled. Even if the products don't work out, I got far more than my money's worth and it is only $10.

If you're looking for a good lifestyle box, try PopSugar! I believe it is $35/box, and it's fantastic. I was actually given a 3-month subscription as a gift and have been absolutely loving it.

  10. I just got my monthly Birchbox in the mail today, and I am heading over to the website now to cancel. I have been pretty disappointed with them, but I may have to try Ipsy! Those products look right up my alley!
