5 on Friday

Hey everyone!  I'm back for the 5 on Friday linkup.  I've had a busy week so far, and we're going to Lexington to do the Iron Horse half marathon this weekend.  I'm really excited to do my "recovery" week through some beautiful Kentucky countryside.  Anyways, let's get to my five.

George and I are on a kick of picking a TV series and watching the crap out of it.  First with Orange is the New Black, then House of Cards, and now... Breaking Bad.  We watch an average of two episodes a night.  I'm starting to wonder if we should be rationing to make it last longer.  <addict speak

Last weekend, my aunt and I did our second 16 mile training run.  My dad ran the first 6 of it with us.  It was humid, raining, and I was miserable.  I mean... pretty miserable.  I'm hoping that this will be the hardest/worst run I have until this marathon, but I have a feeling that the 18 miler coming up will top it. Pray for me...or at least my sanity (and my aching feet).

I need to find a new foundation.  I've been wearing Garnier BB cream for a year or so, but I'm ready for a change.  I have very dry skin in the winter, but want something that stays on.  I'm ready for your suggestions!

House update!  They have delivered a bunch of wood.  Yeah, that's about it.  They have the foundation of the walkout basement and garage poured, but that's all so far.  I'm really ready for our dirt and cement to start looking like a house!

I HATE taking selfies!
This week, I received the SWEETEST present from Kerry at Till Then, Smile Often.  I saw this post where she knitted this super cute hat.  I told her that I liked it, and the next thing I know, I'm wearing one of my very own.  It even fit my tiny pin head perfectly! Seriously, what a sweetheart!  Thanks again, Kerry!!!

So, there are my five!  Wish me luck this weekend (keeping my fingers crossed for no injuries.)

What is your favorite foundation for dry, winter skin?

  1. I use Dr. jart BB cream and love it! It's pricey but goes a long way. Good luck on your half this weekend!!

  2. good luck this weekend, doll!! and...also...i LOVE that hat! too presh for words!!!

  3. I use Garnier's BB cream too and really love it! I have oily skin and it keeps the oil at bay. Before that I used Diorskin Forever which is still my fav foundation but expensive as hell so Garnier's temporarily taken its place! My friend as Dior's Airflash and it is amazing! Whenever she wears it her skin looks über gorgeous! Good luck with your half marathon!

  4. 16 mile run? Holy crap, that's super impressive!
Good luck this weekend, you got this!!

  5. Ahhh! Just finished the last episode of Orange is the new Black! I'm obsessed and cannot wait until it comes back on! But Breaking Bad - that's a hard one to stop watching.

I was looking for a new tinted moisturizer and when I went to Sephora they gave me a skincare IQ. They put this thing to your face in 3 different spots and it will give you an IQ and tell you which products are best for your skin type! The Nars one I was looking at didn't even show up in my results. Only takes a couple minutes and now I feel like I won't be as terrible when it comes to this stuff!

    Have a great weekend!

  6. Yeah for your half-marathon this weekend! You are going to do great! i did the same thing with Breaking Bad, a little marathon viewing session but I am only on season 3. I use Covergirl TruBlend foundation and love it for the winter. I am so glad that the hat fits!! It looks great on you!

  7. Just found your blog thanks to the link up! Excited to follow along with you!

  8. Good luck this weekend! Can't wait to hear all about it. I'm starting training for my first 1/2 in January. I'm terrified and excited all at the same time. Love the hat on you!

  9. Good luck this weekend!! I don't know how you do first 5k is coming up in a couple weeks and I'm nervous about that. I can't imagine a half marathon! You go girl!

  10. I use Boscia's BB cream and I love the consistency and moisture level - it comes in a single shade that adjusts to your skin tone. It can still be a bit dark for me in the winter (I go from tan and freckly to pasty white in about 5 days with no sunshine.) I also recommend going to Sephora and getting their advice. They can actually give you sample sizes of the ones you're interested in so you can try them at home. I got 3 different ones before deciding on the Boscia BB cream, and each sample was enough for me to use for 2-3 days to really test them out.

Also, last time I was in Sephora I picked up the travel size Glam Glow mask, and it was amazing! I used it before my friend's wedding last weekend, and it made a huge difference in my skin (although I have to say, the "tingle" of the mask was really intense for the first 30 seconds or so).

  11. I love NARS sheer glow foundation. I've been using it for a couple of years and went through countless foundations before I fell in love with it. I have dry to combination skin, depending on the time of year. I'd check it out!

  12. My husband and I are the SAME way with shows...once we've found a good show, we can't stop watching it. 2-3 episodes a night AT LEAST!

That knitted beanie is so cute and it looks really good on you. Aren't blogger friends the best?!

I'm not a huge foundation girl, but I have pretty dry skin all year round. I've been using Tarte's Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer and I am in LOVE with it.

  13. I just started using the Tinted Moisturizer Creme Compact from Laura Mercier and it is AMAZING. It's build-able coverage, so it's great for a light layer or a little more for an evening out or something. The nice thing too is that it is designed to keep your skin hydrated. It is definitely on the pricier end, but it's pretty awesome.

  14. The best foundation hands down is Estée Lauder's Double Wear Light. It's not too heavy but still has good coverage. Plus, it literally lasts all day long! I have used it for years and will buy something new every now and then just because I get bored but I always go back to it!! You can go to any Estée Lauder and they will give you a free 10 day sample! You must try it! :)

  15. I use Revlon foundation and love it. I recently picked it up after feeling like my BB cream was not giving me enough coverage. I have combination dry skin and it has yet to flake which is a miracle for me! The hubs and I binge watch TV shows too! It started with Lost in graduate school. We spent entire Sunday afternoons streaming it over a tiny computer screen! Breaking bad was the same way for us! It was a great show, I never thought I would like it but ended up loving each episode! Also, congrats on 16 miles! The higher mileage is rough but totally worth it!!

  16. I love love love Makeup Forever. Even with the pricetag. I Can also recommend No7 which you can buy at Target I believe. That's a bit mid level and my every day makeup and is just as lovely as makeup forever. :)
Doublewear from Estee Lauder was always too heavy for my dry skin and in the winter my skin is even drier. I did invest in it because of all the great reviews but due to my skin dryness even the light was a bad investment. My skin got flaky mid-day. Was no good.

  17. Hello! I just found you on the link up and love your blog. I've actually just started training for my first marathon (eek) and would love to hear what's been working for your training. Check me out at
    Can't wait to read more!

  18. I have switched to using CC cream! I have dry skin this time of year and it keeps my face looking fresh all day long! Better yet it is oil free, and helps blend your complection! I prefer just to use the basic Sephora brand :)
