Weird Facts About Me: 5 on Friday

Hey everyone!  In true Friday fashion, I'm joining the 5 on Friday linkup.

When deciding what to write about, I noticed that the "About" section of my blog made me sound pretty normal.  Anyone that knows me personally, knows that I am anything but normal. :)

So, here are the 5 Weird Facts About Me:

1.) I'm scared of fish

In college, my roommate and I decided to get beta fish.  We were going to condition them during the semester and have them fight to the death before Christmas break.

I'm totally kidding...

We planned on buying these cute fish bowls for our dorm room and having the gravel match our color scheme.  As we’re walking down the aisles of open fish tanks to pick out our fish, I realized that I was really uncomfortable.  I ended up giving my fish away that day because I couldn't be around him. He just grossed me out! Sarah’s fish (named Lucious Vorenous) lived 3 years.

Fast forward a few years.  George and I are in Greece, and the fish are biting my legs.  No, not “kissing” you.  Biting…taking tiny chunks of flesh out of my legs.  This January, in Hawaii, I went snorkeling and had a minor underwater panic attack when a school of fish came swimming towards my face.  So terrifying.

"No, really George... they were coming straight at me."

2.)  I'm a closet Garth Brooks fan

I guess not so closet anymore, eh?  When I was young (5 or 6?), I had a Garth Brooks cassette tape that I would have my dad play in the car.  My hands down, favorite song as a kindergartener was “Friends in Low Places.”  If this doesn’t give you a peek into my weirdness, I don’t know what does.

3.)  I’m not really superstitious, except for the whole making a wish at 11:11

That, I’m serious as a heart attack about.  I make multiple wishes, with my eyes closed, no matter where I am.

4.) I chose my college and my major/career in about 5 seconds during a conversation with one of my best friends, Sarah

Since I was 6 years old, I knew that I wanted to be a professional ballet dancer.  I was well on my way, and then one day, the professional company and academy that I had been dancing with nearly my whole life, shut down.  I was so lost and confused.  Many professional dancers jump right into dancing with a company from high school, and most have finished high school through homeschooling.  I had very little plans of going to college.  One night, during the summer between my junior and senior years of high school, Sarah suggested that I go to Purdue and become a nurse.  We could room together and study with each other.  My thoughts were, “Purdue is in state, health and science have always been my favorite subjects, thinks about it for 5 seconds, OK, I’ll do that!”  So far, it has worked out wonderfully.

5.)  I’ve seen every episode of Full House too many times to count

While at Purdue, my roommates could play the first minute of a Full House episode, and I would be able to tell them what was going to happen during the show.  I was a huge fan of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen when I was growing up.  Still, to this day, if Full House is on, I’ll watch it… or at least have it on in the background.

Alright, there are some weird facts about me.

What are some random facts about you?  Who else is scared of fish?  I know I'm not alone! :)

  1. Haha --- I was cracking up over the fish stories.... especially how you bought them with plans to condition them to fight! ;) Hilarious!

And how awesome is it that nursing totally worked out for you? My best friend is a nurse at a children's hospital in Dallas and *most* days she really loves it.

So glad you joined the link-up! And, I just read your "about me" on your side menu.... "you can find me at Target!" YES!! Same here. Ha!

  2. Is it sad that I don't think any of those things are weird at all? ;-) I saw Garth a few years ago when he was in Kansas City. His brother was the Deacon at the church I grew up in.

I think I have also seen every episode of Full House, and now that they are on Nick at Night I am watching them again.

  3. OH my goodness...who doesn't love Garth Brooks AND Full House!! I love watching re-run episodes....I just can't turn them off!

  4. I have missed waaaay too much of full house, no TV growing up. But I caught some of it in high school and college, love it. I stalk I mean follow bob on twitter! And I think he is super funny!! I also hate fish. Snorekled and almost drown my cousin when the fish attacked me! :/

  5. I love how you chose your career..and I'm a little afraid of fish too. I'm fine with them in a bowl or a tank (we have tow goldfish called Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy), but if they are near me in the water I freak OUT. When my siblings and I would go to the beach, they would love to tell me they saw a fish by me just to see me run straight out of the water!

Full disclosure....I've *never* seen Full House!

  6. fellow Garth brooks lover over here, too!!

  7. I'm not scared of fish, but I ran into an eel when I was snorkling in Hawaii, and I almost DIED!!! Okay, not really died. But I did start freaking out. It was the scariest thing ever. I just don't consider an eel a fish. It's more like a snake, which I am terrified of. Terrified. Also, I love Full House too! And Garth. Did you know Garth is from the town in Yukon where I live? There's even a Garth Brooks Blvd!

  8. Loved reading your 5 facts.
I've thought about linking up with "A Rural Journal" (she has the
same kind of link-up on Fridays), and this week, I did it!
p.s. It would be kinda weird if someone wasn't scared of that first fish! Aauuggghhhh.

  9. Hi! I found you through the link up and was immediately drawn in by your fear of fish. One of my best friends is scared of fish! It cracks me up because she's a total beach girl, but hates fish. Now I know she's not alone. :)

And I'm with you on Full House. In fact, we've introduced our kiddos to the show and they just love it, too! :)

  10. Ummm I am not afraid of fish, but that fish is scary!! I had no idea where I wanted to go to school so I asked my Dad and he picked Big Ten schools. Yeah I went to college based on my Dad's love of their football teams. I did at least go and visit the top ones. Go Buckeyes!! You Got it Dude and How Rude is forever imprinted in my brain thanks to Full House reruns! :)

  11. haha love this. & nursing is such a good job!!!

  12. Hey! Fellow nurse here! That is too funny about being scared of fish but I kind of understand that. For our honeymoon we swam with stingrays and I was terrified they were going to bite me! I was also a MK and Ashley fan. I was actually in the "Trench coat Twins Club". I wore the t shirt that came with it all the time! Total nerd!

  13. Hi Em,

I enjoyed your five facts...I'll have to use that idea on my own blog sometime!
BTW, my grandfather was full-blooded Greek. His last name was Zarafonetis. I dream of going to the Greek Isles one day!

Hope you'll stop by and visit my blog...

  14. I LOVE Friends in Low Places, loved Full House, and also make wishes at 11:11. I somehow never catch the a.m. version though, only the p.m. one LOL

  15. I never saw the very last episode of full house, i had allways missed it.

  16. I am scared of dinosaurs! I mean really come on they have been gone forever!

  17. Fish terrify me too! I was just at my cabin and the little buggers were nipping at my legs. It hurt!

  18. You really are scared of fish! I have never heard of that before but if you were swimming it would be really scary. I was swimming in Pensacola once and a MASSIVE school of fish came swimming at us. I didn't mind the fish so much but they always say that the school of fish are swimming together and fast because something bigger is behind them. I freaked and swam out of the ocean ASAP.
